The measure of a community is not by how high it stands in times of peace, but how it rises in the face of tragedy. First, it was Hurricane Harvey that brought with it floods that have displaced hundreds of thousands of Americans. Today, it is Hurricane Irma, which has bestowed an untold amount of damage on the great people of Florida. While the homes, neighborhoods and communities in Florida will never be the same, one thing will remain constant: our steadfast support of all those rising through this horrible tragedy. As the leading human rights organization for all individuals with Down syndrome, the National Down Syndrome Society looks forward to providing all necessary resources and support for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. As we did with Harvey, we will reach out to our Florida affiliates and Buddy Walk® programs affected by Hurricane Irma to affirm our commitment to the Down syndrome community and beyond.
