NDSS is pleased to introduce a new artist being featured on the NDSS tribute cards. Born with Down syndrome in 1952, Bruce Gillespie has overcome many limitations and has been a successful artist for the past 45 years. Over the years, Bruce has drawn portraits of the greatest jazz musicians in the world –Keith Jarrett, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Gary Burton to name a few. In 2015, the Arts Council of New Haven, CT. dedicated an exhibit to these portraits.
Most recently, Bruce has been named artist-in-residence for the Knights of Columbus MUSEUM in New Haven. He currently has an exhibition showcasing his drawings entitled “The Creation.”
The five drawings that Bruce is submitting to the National Down Syndrome Society were created while Bruce was camping in the Berkeshire Mountains of Massachusetts and going to a concert at Tanglewood.
Each pack of tribute cards contains five cards, each featuring one of Bruce's beautiful designs. They are available for $25 per pack and 100% of your purchase will be donated to NDSS. Please use these cards to commemorate special events, honor community members, and to share your thoughts and wishes on memorable occasions. Each time you send a card to one of your personal contacts, you are helping NDSS raise awareness for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
Call NDSS at 800-221-4602 to purchase tribute cards and learn more about Bruce and other artists with Down syndrome.
