Kelle Hampton set out to once again raise $100,000 in honor of her daughter Nella. She is more than 25% to her annual goal and has raised a collective total of over $236,000 since her first NDSS fundraiser in October 2010.
Nella’s Triple Crown was established in celebration of Nella’s third birthday. We asked Kelle to share this significance of her fundraiser with us and she said, “[It’s been] three years of joy. Three years of learning. Three years of working with so many others to create the culture we dream of — one that celebrates differences. We continue to learn more, and we are dedicated to sharing what we’ve learned and moving forward with our goal to change stereotypes, raise awareness and multiply the number of opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome to lead a fulfilling life.”
Since January 14, 2013, Kelle has raised $27,500. Donations have come in from more than 1,000 individuals representing 18 countries, 47 states (and Washington, DC and Puerto Rico). Donations from Hawaii, South Dakota or Wyoming will make it 50!
Kelle has worked to build a stronger community of friends and advocates in the Naples, Florida area where she lives. She is a regular at the Tuesday night dance and karaoke party at Fred’s, where individuals with disabilities are encouraged to be themselves and show off their artistic stylings. As a part of her Nella’s Triple Crown fundraiser, Kelle interviewed two of the friends she has made at Fred’s. Watch her video featuring self-advocates Megan and Matt.
When Kelle set up her fundraising campaign, she was eight months pregnant with her third child. We are pleased to announce that Kelle’s son, Dashel Omar, was born on February 14. NDSS is also excited to welcome a new friend and advocate to our community.
