We are proud to introduce Megan Abner as the first self-advocate participant in NDSS Your Way. Megan’s fundraising campaign coincides with the publication of her first book titled, Up Syndrome: It’s All About the Attitude, in which she chronicles her life with Down syndrome. This autobiography is unedited and shares a real picture of life’s “ups and downs.” A portion of proceeds from the book will be donated to NDSS.
To date, Megan has raised $3,090 from her friends and fans. More than $2,000 of the funds came from a book signing event hosted by Megan’s employer, Sweetbay Supermarket, at its Coconut Road location in Bonita Springs, FL. The book signing was initiated by Megan’s store manager, Bethany Ross, and assistant store manager, Kathy Hilton, and was attended by more than one hundred customers, neighbors and colleagues. Books were provided at no cost and voluntary contributions were accepted.
Megan will appear at the NDSS Spring Luncheon in New York City on May 14 as an exhibitor, where she will sell and autograph books.
Megan’s hope is that “one day people will not judge people by their different abilities but accept each person for their own beauty.”
