My name is Steven. I am 24 years old and I have Down syndrome. I believe in myself and all I can do. I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I participate in the Special Olympics. I have been playing the recorder for 17 years, since the age of 7 years old. My favorite songs to play at family get-togethers is "Amazing Grace" and "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven. I am from a big family. I love my parents, my sisters, all my aunts, uncles, cousins and especially my grandparents. I love animals and had a cocker spaniel named Chippy for 11 years. I miss him. I am a high school graduate from Bishop Ford HS in Brooklyn, NY. I have lots of friends. I go to Friday night socials to hang out with my friends. I am a hardworking person. Now, for the past three years, I am a volunteer at a nursing home and work in the dining room. I travel by public bus five times a week. I even traveled on a train to Penn Station to go to Madison Square Garden to see the Knicks play. They beat the Bucks by 2 points, 101 to 99. My hope and dream is that one day I would get a paying job in a store. I hope to get a salary. I love sports. I play baseball. My team is called The Challengers. One night a week I play basketball and swim at the YMCA. I am a winner! At the Special Olympics I won a Silver Medal in Floor Hockey skills. I won a Gold Medal in swimming last year. I will do it again this year!
