Heidi's Book

I am Heidi. I am 20 years old. I live in Minnesota. I was born with Down syndrome. That means I need extra help in school, karate, work and cooking. Even though I have Down syndrome, I still work hard and like hanging out with my friends. I will not have children because I have Down syndrome, but I love being an aunt. I hope I get married someday. I live with my parents. They are always nice to me. I have four brothers and all of them are married. I have three sisters and two of them are married. I have a cat and dog. I have to feed them. I like to play the piano. I love playing games. I like to exercise. My favorite sports are karate and swimming. Also I really like cooking. I like school because I like to learn. I have a boyfriend. He is 32 years old. He’s friendly and kind. I met him at the Down syndrome conference. I volunteer at the nursing home in my town. I set the table and serve food to the people. PRIDE is a transition program to help me meet my goals. I go to PRIDE for five days per week. In the morning I work on my life skills like counting money. In the afternoon I work at Functional Industries. I work on packing pin packs. I talk with bumpy speech or stuttering. It’s part of me. I can use slow speech. In the future, I would like to work in the restaurant. Sometimes I like to be quiet and play with my dolls, color mandalas or watch movies like Anne of Green Gables or nature documentaries.

Great work Heidi! It is fun to write a story, and writing about what you know best, yourself, is a good way to start. Keep up the good work!
