This is my great story about my son Joseph. He was born April 23, 2011. I knew there was a chance he would have Down syndrome but declined to have the amnio because it wouldn’t change what I felt about him already. Two weeks after he was born we received our confirmation that he had Down syndrome and in that moment my world seemed to crumble before me. I spent probably at least two weeks experiencing every emotion possible and one day it just all clicked and I realized that he is mine and I am his. When he was six months old he was diagnosed with infantile spasms and was started on a medication. It worked for a month he didn’t have any seizures and then he started having them again. He would end up having seizures for the next eight excruciating months. We tried a second medication, ketogenic diet and finally a liquid steroid medication and that’s what finally stopped them. July 17, 2012 was the day I realized he had not had a seizure. He has been seizure free for six months now and we are counting every single day as a blessing! He is so amazing and has taught us so many things. We have a pretty big family and I can safely say that our whole family has been impacted in such a way we would’ve never imagined by his absolutely inspiring life. He will be two in a couple of months and I just can’t believe all that he has overcome and all that he has accomplished in his short life. People tell me that he is so lucky to have a mommy and daddy like us but we know that we are the lucky ones to have him in our lives. We love you so much Joseph! You continue to make us so proud and we are so blessed to be a part of YOUR amazing life!
