The first thing people seem to notice about Kayla is her eyes. Every time we go somewhere it seems someone comments about her eyes, usually telling her, "You have such pretty/beautiful eyes!" When I heard about Prevent Blindness America's Most Beautiful Eyes Contest I knew I had to enter her picture. But this was about more than just having her declared a winner of the "Most Beautiful Eyes" - this was an opportunity for her future because the grand prize winner would receive a $25K scholarship (and also become the face of the Star Pupil program for a year). The first phase of the voting consisted of online voting and a winner from each state being chosen; Kayla won for South Carolina. After that, a panel narrowed the state winners down and celebrity judges chose the top 3. When I received the call that Kayla was a finalist I couldn't believe it - we actually made it that far! We, along with the other contestants, were flown to Chicago for the annual dinner and awards banquet. Of course I hoped that she would win, but I didn't really expect it to happen... yet it happened. Kayla was chosen as the grand prize winner! Her beautiful eyes with the subtle almond shape and Brushfield spots just garnered her a college scholarship! We are so thankful for this opportunity and excited to see what the future holds for Kayla!
