On April 21st we welcomed our third boy into the world. We knew from the beginning that our third child was likely to have Down syndrome what we didn't know was the impact he was going to have on our family. We had two boys already, at the time age 19 and 15, and welcoming a new child to our family was going to be a challenge. We had no idea of the blessing and joy Ryan would bring. He struggled at first late to sit, late to crawl, late to walk but his smile left us breathless. And he has become the glue that keeps our family together. Ryan, now 4 ', is in elementary school and far behind the other students. He has trouble speaking; instead uses sign language to communicate with us. He struggles in new situations and at times, chooses to play in seclusion as opposed to playing with others. But with a simple smile or a small gesture, Ryan will bring us all together and is a shining example of true unconditional love. We are so blessed to have Ryan in our lives and we thank God for him every day. We look forward to helping Ryan become the person he is destined to be and we know that each day he will continue to be our shining star.
