Noah's Adoption Story
Noah's Adoption Story

I was an RN in the NICU when a little boy was born who was being put up for adoption. I tried finding him a home with two parents. Everyone that we asked had the same reply "If he was normal, I would take him." You see, Noah was born with Down syndrome and a possible heart problem. I wanted to adopt him, but the adoption fees were too high.

One Sunday, my family and I went to eat lunch and my grandmother told me that she had the money for the adoption. It covered everything, but $100 dollars. In church that night, I felt like God was telling me that everything would be fine. The next day, my mom contacted a lawyer’s office to see if a single woman could adopt. The birth mom wanted to meet me first. We set up a meeting that afternoon. We talked for a while and I heard her story.

At that time, he had two weeks left in the NICU. I had a little time to get a nursery prepared. My mom and I went shopping for a few things. We met my dad later that night to eat supper when I received a phone call from the birth mother. My heart was pounding. I didn’t know what she was going to say. I was afraid she would tell me that she didn’t want me to adopt him. She had just gotten a phone call from the NICU doctor and he said he would be able to come home in two days.

They had no idea about my decision. I was just so excited and had to see him that night. My mom and I went to see him in NICU and told everyone there what I was planning on doing. They were all so excited for me. His nurse that night said when she left that morning; he still had IVs and wires everywhere. He had a tube going into his nose for his feedings because he would not drink from a bottle. He was also in an incubator because he wouldn’t maintain his temperature outside of it. When she got to work Monday night, he was in an open crib, drinking out of a bottle, and did not have an IV or extra wires anywhere. She said he improved so quickly because he knew he found a home that night.

I believe this is God showing me that all things are possible if you just believe in Him. We went to the lawyer’s office Tuesday and signed the papers. I brought him home Wednesday in a borrowed car seat. I took him to church that night and let my church family meet and pray for him. The adoption became final September 12, 2006. He is a smart, happy, healthy little boy and I am blessed to have him in my life.

My new book called "Separated Lives" is a true story about the adoption of a baby boy and years later a friend taking him on a fascinating but uncertain journey to search for his birth parents. It is available from Dorrance Publishing (in Pittsburgh, PA), Barnes & Noble and Author: Lynn Assimacopoulos

I have such a beautiful loving family that would open up their hearts to this beautiful baby boy. They are the perfect family for him and will grow up to be just happy as any normal child. But what is NORMAL? Normal in my eyes is not what we call different is it? For me the wor NORMAL should not exist it is a discrimination word. This child and and any child like him is more normal than any other child that does not have his disabilitiea. God Bless this Family.

This story brought tears of joy to my eyes. I can only pray that this new family will continue to be richly blessed in the years to come. Frankly, this story should be told to any woman receiving a prenatal diagnosis. Perhaps, she would think twice before having an abortion.

I still remember the day Noah's mom came to me and told me that she had found a baby and she so much wanted to adopt him.I was so happy for her.I know she is a wonderful person inside and out and works hard, and I had watch her with my baby girl and I knew the moment she told me about adopting Noah she would be a great mother. The day they brought Noah home and I looked into that handsome little face it was meant to be.It was god telling me he was meant to be a part of our family. When the adoption was finalized was one of the happiest days of my life.I am so great full that I got to be there that day and be a part of that was just amazing.I am very thankful to be a part of this wonderful and amazing family.I love you guys and Love you Noah Bug!! Thank you Jessica for bringing this wonderful little boy into our lives!!
