Family has always been something extra special to me. There is nothing better than getting together with my cousins, aunts and uncles, especially when my cousin, Kyle, is a part of the party. Kyle is a 23-year-old young man with Down syndrome that brings joy to everyone around him and loves nothing more than spending time with his cousins. Whether it is going to the beach, cheering on the local team at sporting events, hosting our annual family party, the “Crab Cake Cook-off,” or jamming to the Mary Poppins’ soundtrack, Kyle is always sharing his smile with those around him. Kyle graduated in 2013 from St. Michael Special School in New Orleans and now works at the Joy Center located inside his school. He has been the “Worker of the Week” award recipient many times! Outside of school, Kyle keeps busy with swimming, attending dances through his “We Care” social club, participating in the Special Olympics, walking in the New Orleans Buddy Walk and riding annually in the “Krewe of Little Rascals” Mardi Gras parade. Kyle is awesome! I am lucky to have a cousin and a best friend like him!
