Living with Down Syndrome
Living with Down Syndrome

All my life I've known how to live with my disorder. Its never bothered me. I'm 20 years old living at home with my parents while my sisters have lived outside of home for the past few years with boyfriends or for work. I never knew I had Down syndrome till I found out at the pre-teen age of 12. Finding out I had a disorder made me feel different, like I couldn't be treated like everyone else. In school I was in resource classes for math and English. My math has always been a problem, but my writing is a whole new story. I love to write its been a hobby of mine since I was 10, now 10 years later I'm still doing. I haven't been recently because I'm always busy with helping my parents with chores inside and outside the house, as well as volunteering my time at Evergreen Hospital every Tuesday. I hope to be a writer/screenwriter some day. With going to school and all no one could physically tell there was something different about me, my Down syndrome is the rarest to have. I was born with Mosaic Down syndrome, but it does not change the fact that I still have a disorder. What makes me stand out, and others is the fact that some of us can do other things that others can not do. I have the talent of remembering names of celebrities, the movies they've been in, their background, what movie made them famous, etc. It's the same with music, but specifically country music. I could listen to country music all day. I hope to have a family someday, I hope to have a successful career, I hope I can consider the possibility that my kids when I have children don't get my genetic chromosome and have to live with what I lived with, but again I have Mosaic Down syndrome. That is my story.
