The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) Announces New Sports Ambassador, Alison Owen

Alison Owen, pitcher for the Akron Racers, National Pro Fastpitch, has chosen to support the mission of NDSS by becoming an NDSS Sports Ambassador

New York, NY (May 27, 2015). The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) is excited to announce that Alison Owen has become an NDSS Sports Ambassador. Ms. Owen is a professional pitcher for the Akron Racers, National Pro Fastpitch and has chosen to support NDSS due to our shared vision of a world where all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations and become valued members of welcoming communities.

"I am so excited to work with the National Down Syndrome Society! I am fortunate to be able to raise awareness for such a great organization. I chose NDSS because one of my closest friends had a niece, Marley, who was six when she passed from complications related to Down syndrome. Marley had a shorter life than most but her fight and constant smile was absolutely inspiring. I want to be a small part in a cause that changes the lives of beautiful human beings.  I am so excited to be a part of this journey. Thank you NDSS for allowing me to have this opportunity."

NDSS is looking forward to our new partnership with Ms. Owen and continuing to spread the importance of the value, acceptance and inclusion of all people with Down syndrome. NDSS President, Sara Weir says, “Alison is going to be a wonderful Sports Ambassador for NDSS. She came to us asking how she could make a difference in the lives of people like Marley and we couldn’t be more excited to have her on board.”
