Washington, DC Leadership Network Kick-Off Event

National Down Syndrome Society Honors 20 Members of Congress at DC Leadership Network Kick-Off Event

NDSS hosted its kick-off of the NDSS DC Leadership Network at a Capitol Hill reception on Wednesday, which turned out 22 US Representatives. NDSS recognized these members of Congress as NDSS Capitol Hill Superheroes for all their work on behalf of people with Down syndrome and other disabilities. These members include:

 “NDSS envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations and become valued members of welcoming communities and we are grateful for the work of theses members on the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus and their support of legislation like the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act,” said NDSS VP of Advocacy & Affiliate Relations Sara Hart Weir.

The event took place at the American Legion, with over 75 guests in attendance to support the honorees and thank them for their advocacy on behalf of people with Down syndrome. “I'm honored to serve as keynote speaker for the NDSS Leadership Network event. I admire their work on inclusion & breaking stereotypes,” tweeted Rep. Jim Langevin from the event. NDSS looks forward to continued work with all of the honorees to promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome through legislative action.
