Andrew Lemoncello Breaks World Record While Raising Funds for NDSS

Flagstaff Arizona Resident Broke World Record as Part of National Campaign for Down Syndrome

Athletes Across the Country Join National Fundraising Team in Honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month

NEW YORK, NY - Olympic athlete, Andrew Lemoncello, broke the Guinness World Records™ record for fastest half marathon on a treadmill as part of the National Down Syndrome Society's Team NDSS21, of which Lemoncello is the co-captain. The team is the first of its kind as part of NDSS Your Way, the organization’s independent fundraising program. Athletes of all abilities from across the country were invited to participate in a team of 21 individuals interested in fundraising for Down syndrome in and around October, Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Together the 21 athletes were expected to raise at least $21,000, representing an extra copy of the 21st chromosome in trisomy 21, the most common form of Down syndrome.  Lemoncello has managed to raise more than $29,500 himself, adding to a team total of over $40,000 to date.

Lemoncello’s record-breaking attempt took place on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Chandler Fashion Center in Phoenix, Arizona around 4:15 pm.  The reigning record was 1:08:50 and Andrew beat it with a time of 1:07:29! Hundreds of spectators cheered him on for the 60+ minutes he ran on the treadmill.

Lemoncello dedicated his record-breaking effort and his fundraising campaign to his daughter, Isla, who was born in June and has Down syndrome.
